Free online bmr calculator – Fast, accurate, and easy to use

Estimate your body's basal metabolic rate (BMR) with the global gold-standard Mifflin-St Jeor equation—plus Harris-Benedict and Katch-McArdle for athletes. Compare, export, and learn how BMR guides your calorie goals.

BMR Formulas Explained

Mifflin-St Jeor (Recommended)

Men: BMR = 10 × weight(kg) + 6.25 × height(cm) − 5 × age + 5

Women: BMR = 10 × weight(kg) + 6.25 × height(cm) − 5 × age − 161

Harris-Benedict (Revised 1984)

Men: BMR = 13.397 × weight + 4.799 × height − 5.677 × age + 88.362

Women: BMR = 9.247 × weight + 3.098 × height − 4.330 × age + 447.593

Katch-McArdle (Best for athletes)

BMR = 370 + 21.6 × lean body mass (kg)

Lean mass = total weight × (1 − body fat %/100)

Worked Example

Female, age 30, 62 kg, 167 cm, 24% body fat

Mifflin-St Jeor: 10×62 + 6.25×167 − 5×30 − 161 = 620 + 1043.75 − 150 − 161 = 1,323 kcal/day

Harris-Benedict: 9.247×62 + 3.098×167 − 4.330×30 + 447.593 ≈ 1,414 kcal/day

Katch-McArdle: Lean mass = 62×0.76 = 47.1 kg → 370 + 21.6×47.1 ≈ 1,388 kcal/day

Mifflin-St Jeor

1,323 kcal

Harris-Benedict

1,414 kcal

Katch-McArdle

1,388 kcal

TDEE at moderate activity (×1.55): approximately 2,050–2,190 kcal/day.
