How Retirement Corpus is Calculated

Corpus Needed = Present Value of all inflation-adjusted retirement expenses:
PV = PMT × [1 - (1 + r)-n] / r, where PMT = monthly expense at retirement, r = post-inflation return/month, n = months in retirement

Example Calculation

Example: Age 30, retire at 60, expectancy 85.
Monthly expenses: ₹50,000 today, inflation 5%, return 10%.
At age 60 your monthly need (inflation-adjusted): ₹2,16,097.
To last through age 85, you’ll need a corpus of ₹3.76 crore.
To reach this, invest ₹18,187/month at 10% p.a. starting now!
